she bought the dress

Indirectness can violate one maxim or multiple maxims at a time. For example, a girl is asked how much her dress costs. Because she doesn’t want to say the exact price of her dress (the fact is that the dress is expensive), she politely says that she forgets the price. She just says that she bought it in Minimal. By stating that she forgets the price, she violates the maxim of quality. At the same time, she states that she bought the dress in Minimal. It violates the maxim of quantity. Her friend didn’t ask her where she bought the dress. She adds the information to indirectly saying “this dress is rather expensive” despite saying the exact price and possibly hurting/ threatening her friend’s face. She doesn’t violate the relevance of the maxim. But to understand the context, someone must know what “Minimal” is.
